In recent years Cycling out of poverty has provided a large number of bicycles on micro credit to small entrepreneurs in Africa. By getting access to bicycles this way, their business opportunities increase. However, more and more small entrepreneurs indicate that the average African bicycle is not adequate for their businesses. Carrying larger loads is a challenge with a normal bicycle. Many Africans are very capable of transporting large amounts of products on their bicycle. But there is a need for modified bicycles, fit to the needs of small entrepreneurs. In the Cycling blue for Kenya workshop in Kenya which we are setting up, these modified bicycles will be made. For the process of making designs for these modified bicycles, a group of students of the TU Delft are now working on a multi-functional African bicycle.
